The Executive Branch of the Nation published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette the decree 134 / 2018, which approves the regulations of Law 27.279 on Minimum Environmental Protection Budgets for the Management of Empty Pesticide Containers.
The regulations define the procedures for the correct application of the Integrated Management System for agrochemical drums.
“Each stage of the project is detailed and implemented Management System established by Law 27.279, in order to make operational the proper management of empty containers", the text states in its recitals.
Likewise, the following are established and detailed: minimum construction and location conditions for both Temporary Storage Centers (CAT) and the sites where empty containers are stored by users, “since the protection of health and the environment is essential.”
With the regulationThe Government promotes a series of good practices such as triple washing, which eliminates any danger after the application of the inputs. In addition, it guarantees the comprehensive management of empty containers.
The importance of washing containers
Washing the containers means spending more time on the mixing preparation process but generates great benefits:
- From an environmental point of view, allows to prevent possible problems that would be generated by having unrinsed containers that contain waste that, if spilled incorrectly and in their commercial concentration, could cause contamination both in waterways and on the ground, at the same time that it allows the material to be reused, converting it into useful products for society, reducing environmental waste.
- From a social point of viewl, helps to avoid possible poisoning that could occur if these containers are reused, for example, to contain drinking water or any other content used in household units.
- From an economic point of view, allows the producer to take advantage of the entire product that has been acquired, improving the profitability of the investment made. After the correct washing of the containers, it is proven that 99,99% of the product that it previously contained is eliminated and this, when poured back into the tank, can be used for application to the crops.
