They remind Argentina to keep it free from classical swine fever

-

In view of the occurrence of classical swine fever (CSF) in BrazilThe National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) reminds us of the sanitary measures to prevent the entry of this disease into Argentina.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has reported a case of classical swine fever in Forquilha, state of Ceará, in the Northeast region of Brazil; about 500 km from the beginning of the zone recognized by the OIE as free of PPC, says Senasa

Why does it matter?

The news is important because Argentina has no PPC focus from 1999 to the present. Senasa carries out epidemiological surveillance activities that demonstrate that classical swine fever is not present in the country. These measures, together with prevention activities to avoid its entry, allowed this year to obtain international recognition as a country free of classical swine fever by the OIE.

Control and prevention

It is essential to strengthen prevention and eventual control of the disease to maintain the achieved health status and the sanitary integrity of the pigs.

In this regard, Senasa recommends improving biosecurity measures on farms, immediately reporting suspected cases and high mortality rates, not feeding pigs with waste and restricting the entry of people to the farm, especially those who have been in affected countries.

Together we can protect our animal production.
