In the framework of its 50th anniversary, the Argentine Institute of Customs Studies (IAEA) will hold on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, the Commemorative Conference "Challenges of Customs Law in the 21st Century”, with the participation of fifteen national and foreign specialists in the customs sector and international trade.
The event will be broadcast on the Zoom platform, with the possibility of listening to the international speakers in their original language or in Spanish, starting at 8:45 (Argentina), and will be presented by Adrián Marcelo Míguez, President of the IAEA.
The panel discussion on “The significance of independence here“Demological, legal and scientific aspects of customs law” will be held in commemoration of the creation of the Argentine Institute of Customs Studies, the National Tax Court and the drafting of the Customs Code. Jorge Di Fiori, Founding Member of the IEA; Ricardo Xavier Basaldúa, Co-editor of the National Customs Code; Cora Musso, Member of the National Tax Court will participate. The moderator will be Enrique Barreiro, founding partner of the BRSV ABOGADOS Law Firm.
Another of the event's topics will be “Customs offences“Blacks in the 21st Century”; Francisco Menéndez, head of FJ MENÉNDEZ ABOGADOS, will be the moderator. This panel will be attended by Guillermo Vidal Albarracín (h), member and Secretary of the IAEA; Facundo Sarrabayrouse, Partner at the Roca & Sarrabayrouse Law Firm, and Juan Patricio Cotter, partner at the Petersen & Cotter Moine Law Firm.
There will also be a panel discussion on “The evolution of foreign jurisprudence and doctrine in customs matters”. On this occasion, an update will be made on customs regulations with a focus on the customs of Canada and the United States of America. The complexities in the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) will also be addressed. To this end, the participants will be Jaime Seidner from Tax Partner (Customs) PwCCanada / Consultant Pw CLaw LLP; Travis Fournier (USA), Manager of Tax Services RSM US LLP; Santiago Ibañez Marsilla (Spain), Professor at the University of Valencia, while Adrián Míguez will participate as moderator.
The panel “30 years since the creation of MERCOSUR”. The following will participate as guest speakers: lawyer Andrés Varela (Uruguay), Partner at Figueredo & Varela; Welber Barral (Brazil), Partner at O BMJ Consultores Associados; Marisa Bircher (Argentina), former Secretary of Foreign Trade of the Nation, and Aldo Centurión (Paraguay), General Coordinator of Citizens of MERCOSUR. The moderator in this case will be Alejandro Perotti, Full Member of the Argentine Institute of Customs Studies and President of the International Society of Community Law and Integration.
The closing ceremony will be led by Andrés Rohde Ponce, President of the International Academy of Customs Law (ICLA).
