The first containerized bitrain arrived at the Port of Buenos Aires this Tuesday (11.9.2018) from the Toyota plant in Zárate. It is the first operational test of this type of cargo transportation that is carried out to evaluate its logistics and energy efficiency.
In order to collaborate, el Federal Port conditioned the facilities of the Port Support Zone to promote greater agility in operations, reduction of logistics costs, supporting the energy efficiency policies that this type of vehicles comply with.
"The incorporation of bitrain services in our terminals aims to generate greater savings and reduce operating times. This is a great step towards intermodality and the modernization of the entire system," said Gonzalo Mórtola, Port Supervisor of Buenos Aires..
During its journey through the port, the first bitren entered the Port Support Zone where it maneuvered among other trucks and waited its turn in the renovated facilities for the respective unloading of containers at the terminals and then returned to the automotive plant.
What is a bitren
This type of transport is a truck with double semi-trailer connected by a train shared axles with state-of-the-art safety standards and can transport up to 75% more load than standard trucks.
At present, Units with up to two 2-foot containers circulate and it is expected that in the future they will also transport 40-foot containers. This means savings of up to 30% for foreign trade agents and transport companies in our country.
