Bolsonaro wishes Argentina success and reiterates willingness to implement Mercosur-EU agreement

-

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro wished his Argentine counterpart Alberto Fernández success on Wednesday (11.12.2019) and reiterated his government's willingness to implement the trade agreement between the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the European Union (EU) as soon as possible.

A day after Fernández's inauguration, Bolsonaro highlighted in a meeting with businessmen, at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), in Brasilia, that «Argentina has a lot to offer Brazil, and Brazil to Argentina.

«Argentina has a lot to offer us, like it offers us wheat, the gas from Vaca Muerta; Brazil has a lot to offer Argentina as well. And you can be sure of one thing: our government will only be happy when all our other brothers in South America live in freedom and democracy.", He said.

The Brazilian president, who was represented by Vice President Hamilton Mourao at the inauguration ceremony in Buenos Aires, stressed that the neighboring country is Brazil's main trading partner in the region.

"I hope Argentina is successful, after all, it is here in South America our great trading partner"", he claimed.

«Brazil was the only country mentioned in President Fernández's speech, and we are prepared to implement our (Mercosur) agreement with the European Union as quickly as possible."He added.

The agreement between Mercosur (comprising Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) and the EU was signed last July and is currently in the legal review stage, meaning it must be submitted to a vote by all member countries' parliaments in order to come into force.

In an audience with some 650 Brazilian businessmen, the president assured that the government intends to work closely with the industry for the future of the country, and that it is available to modify decrees that may be obstacles to the development of the nation.

He stressed that he intends to contribute to the growth of the industry and improve the business environment, because "Brazilians have an enormous capacity to create and innovate. They are excellent entrepreneurs."

Bolsonaro was honored with the Grand Collar of the Order of Industrial Merit, the highest honor awarded by the CNI, intended for presidents of the Republic.
