Brazil needs to pass economic reforms: Why?

-

Brazil cannot continue to run deficits every year and needs to pass economic reforms to regain the confidence of foreign investors, President Jair Bolsonaro said in an interview with TV Record on Wednesday (23.1.2019) evening at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

"Brazil is viewed with great affection by businessmen and governments around the world, and people feel that they want the best for Brazil, but we need to do our part, we cannot continue with the deficit we have year after year, and we have to make some reforms so that they regain confidence in us," Bolsonaro said in the interview when evaluating the meetings he has had in the Swiss city during this week's forum.

Simplification

One of the main demands that Bolsonaro has heard from political and economic agents is that Brazil needs to be de-bureaucratized, reduce its tax burden and eliminate barriers.

"They want a more agile Brazil, and we have been talking with the economic team for a long time and we are taking measures in that direction," he said.

Bolsonaro gave an interview to Record after having cancelled a press conference that was scheduled for Wednesday at the World Economic Forum with ministers Paulo Guedes (Economy) and Sergio Moro (Justice and Public Security).

The president said the cancellation was on medical advice, and that the president will undergo surgery as soon as he returns to Brazil to remove a colostomy bag he has been wearing since undergoing two operations following a knife attack in September last year, during the presidential campaign.
