The National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes) of the Ministry of Production (Produce) of Peru, started the “Pilot Project to optimize sanitary criteria for the processing of fishery products for direct human consumption for export purposes” on August 15, 2020.
According to the Senipes statement, the initiative will contribute to the economic reactivation of the fishing and aquaculture sector, while It will allow us to identify opportunities for improving the regulatory framework, production practices and regulatory measures.
The pilot, which has a validity period of one year, as provided in the DS No. 012-2020-PRODUCE, adopts measures for the continuous supply of raw materials of national or imported origin, promotes the joint development of applied technology, training of personnel involved in processing, and support from Sanipes in the production process to verify the sanitary conditions in which it is carried out.
It also states that operators must update their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points Plan, their Good Manufacturing Practices Manual and their Hygiene and Sanitation Manual prior to the processing stage, based on the input of raw materials, the development process and the hydrobiological product, within the framework of the pilot project.
Sanipes CEO Johnny Marchán said that the registration of the processing plants interested in participating in the pilot project is expected and confirmed that the ongoing evaluation of the project's activities will allow for the timely identification and proposal of improvements that should be adopted by different organizations in the fishing and aquaculture sector.
Operators of industrial fish processing plants for direct human consumption, with a valid operating license and health authorization, interested in participating in the pilot project, can request their participation by filling out the form until the 14 of September of 2020
