The National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) of Peru announced this Sunday (03.11.2019) that it will implement the Global Program for Trade Facilitation in that country, with the support of international entities.
To this end, the tax authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
Within the framework of this project, The WCO will provide Sunat with technical assistance, as well as the necessary capacities and resources, financed by SECO, to streamline and simplify foreign trade in Peru., providing a series of opportunities to consolidate our economic development, promoting the modernization of Peruvian customs.
Sunat head Claudia Suárez Gutiérrez stressed that this initiative will improve customs procedures, mainly streamlining cross-border trade.
"We are confident that the incorporation of international standards and best practices from the region and the world will contribute to this objective, without giving up the fight against the trafficking of goods."He said.
The signing ceremony was attended by María Ortiz Bolívar, representative of the WCO; Markus-Alexander Antonietti, ambassador of Switzerland; Claudia Suárez Gutiérrez, head of Sunat, as well as Rafael García Melgar, Deputy National Superintendent of Customs and representatives of foreign trade associations that make up the Advisory Council on Customs Affairs.
The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Project in Peru was also held during the ceremony. It is made up of members of OMA, SECO and Sunat, establishing the work plan for the next three years, prioritizing risk management and permanent review of border controls, organizing national and regional workshops, among other activities.
Finally, Sunat stated that it will continue to promote the simplification and continuous improvement of foreign trade procedures, with the support of business associations and the WCO, in order to consolidate its regional leadership in the modernization and facilitation of customs clearance and the security of the logistics chain, as pillars of the management of Peruvian Customs.
