Paraguay will meet with the directors of Latin American Customs

Under the motto “Focusing on common challenges to achieve success”, From April 29 to May 3, around 120 customs authorities from Latin America, Spain and Portugal will meet in Asunción to examine trade aspects of the region and present the upcoming challenges of the sector.  

The 29 3 April to May This year, the XXII Regional Conference of General Directors of Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean (Crdga) and the XL Meeting of National Directors of Customs of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (Comalep) will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Asunción.

The event will be attended by the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Kunio Mikuriya, the Regional Vice President of the aforementioned organization, Enrique Ramírez Paniagua, the National Director of Customs of Paraguay, Julio Fernández, and special guests.

In the context of the aforementioned meetings, National Customs Directors from all over the American continent (North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean), in addition to Spain and Portugal, will come to Asunción, and other observers, as will be the case with the Customs of the Kingdom of Belgium, Korea, Japan, India, New Zealand, Australia, China, among others.

Representatives of International Organizations will also arrive. such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), among others.

The opening ceremony of the Regional Conference of Customs Directors, which will be held under the motto “Focusing on common challenges to achieve success”, is scheduled for 08:30 on Monday 29th of this month.

The opening ceremony will be led by the Regional Vice President of the WCO, Enrique Ramírez, and will be followed by the Secretary General of the World Organization.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on existing performance measurement methods and mechanisms, the results of which will be shared with the WCO to inform about this initiative. Aspects of the challenges and successes in the region regarding trade, among other topics, will also be examined.

Within the framework of this meeting, the Joint Forum Oma-Comalep-private sector will be held, scheduled for May 1, under the motto "Communication Mechanisms and Joint Work between the Private Sector and Customs aimed at Trade Facilitation." The Meeting of National Directors of Customs of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (Comalep) will be held on May 2 and 3, where topics related to the processes of integration and coordination between customs authorities, the challenges of the technological era, tax risk management and administrative matters will be addressed. The event is scheduled to close at 13:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3.
