The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay led a inter-institutional meeting which included representatives from the private sector, in order to address the situation raised in recent days by the congestion on the Friendship Bridge, which caused delays in the development of international transport.

Representatives from the Directorate of Immigration, the National Directorate of Customs, the Paraguayan Navy, the National Directorate of Transport (DINATRAN) and the Paraguayan Chamber of Exporters and Traders of Cereals and Oilseeds (CAPECO) participated in the virtual meeting. The coordination was in charge of the Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration of the National Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Didier Olmedo.

On this occasion, the operation of the aforementioned border control center was evaluated in terms of the application of health protocols, security measures, and customs and port operations, identifying courses of action to resolve transit restrictions., given that they originated from border control measures applied by Brazilian authorities upon entry into their territory.

Likewise, representatives at the border point of the National Customs Directorate, the National Navigation and Ports Administration, the National Transport Directorate and the Naval Prefecture were tasked with coordinating measures aimed at compliance with health and safety requirements, as well as ensuring the normal flow of international transport.

The group will meet again later this week to monitor developments.
