Paraguay begins partial closure of borders

The Government of Paraguay began the partial closure of its borders with neighboring countries, Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia, starting this Monday (16.03.2020/19/XNUMX), as part of the fight against the spread of COVID-XNUMX in the country, according to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The actions basically consist of reducing the entry and exit of people at international crossings, as well as closing some border areas and maintaining a few where all controls will be concentrated, but not for merchandise.

«On the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, after the meeting of the National Defense Council held on March 14, 2020, the General Directorate of Migration of the Ministry of the Interior began the process of temporary border closure for foreigners not residing in the national territory, for a period of 15 days from the date", says the official text.

It is also noted that "from this date the Reduction of the number of border crossings, leaving 30% of immigration checkpoints operational that the institution has (13 of the 42 immigration posts), with the aim of focusing controls on border crossings with the greatest flow of people."

It also states that "the measure will be applied with the cooperation of security forces and the accompaniment of health personnel who will be in charge of health controls at open border crossings and the implementation of health barriers at other access points to the country."
