Paraguay will assume the Presidency of the Intergovernmental Committee on the Hydroway

Paraguay will assume the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Intergovernmental Committee on the Waterway (CIH) next Thursday, February 22.

This assumption will take place within the framework of the XLV Meeting of the aforementioned political body responsible for the implementation of the Santa Cruz de la Sierra Agreement on River Transport by the Paraguay – Paraná Waterway (Port of Cáceres – Port of Nueva Palmira) held at the headquarters of the National Foreign Ministry. 

On this occasion, with the presence of delegates from the 5 countries that make up the CIH (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay), it is planned to develop an agenda that includes important issues related to the institutionality of this body; updating of regulations; indefinite extension of the validity of said Agreement; headquarters of the Executive Secretariat; among other important issues of interest to the countries.

The aforementioned Agreement aims at Objective: To facilitate navigation and commercial, river and longitudinal transport on the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, from the Port of Cáceres to the Port of Nueva Palmira, by establishing a common regulatory framework that promotes the development, modernization and efficiency of operations and facilitates and allows access under competitive conditions to overseas markets.

As is known, the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway is a project of important logistical and strategic value, which today constitutes a fundamental trunk route for foreign trade.
