The National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) carries out the health certification of cats and/or dogs that travel with their owners abroad by any means - air, land or water.
Citizens must have the International Veterinary Certificate (IVC). For this, they must first consult the requirements requested by the destination country through the Senasa website. In most cases they require the current rabies vaccination and a clinical check-up at your private veterinarian.
The documentation must be submitted to Senasa within 10 days of issuance, a procedure that can be initiated by self-management or be carried out completely in person at the certifying offices from Senasa throughout the country.
“The self-management system allows you to start the process, indicate the destination, your data and that of your pet, and make an appointment (date and time) to complete the process with the issuance of the CVI. In this way, time is saved and the CVI necessary for travel is obtained on the same day,” explained Ximena Melón, head of the Animal Foreign Trade Directorate.
Currently, the process initiated by self-management can be completed at the Lazareto Capital office, Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (also on Saturday mornings), the Buquebús port terminal in CABA, the San Fernando and El Palomar airports in the Province of Buenos Aires, and Córdoba.
Travel to Uruguay
Users wishing to travel to Uruguay with their pet must take into account that this country requires individual identification of the pet with an electronic device (microchip).
The owner or person responsible for the animal must present the original copy and a copy of the certificate of identification of the animal by microchip carried out by a registered veterinary professional to the Senasa office. This certificate must include the date of implantation, the animal's data, the microchip number, and the signature and stamp of the acting professional.
"Electronic identification with the microchip is mandatory for canines from October 1, 2018 for the Veterinary Service of Uruguay. This is done through a private veterinarian," said Cecilia Traverso, veterinarian at the Senasa office at the San Isidro Racetrack, Province of Buenos Aires.
From Argentina to Tierra del Fuego via Chile
For the land transport from Argentina to Tierra del Fuego (Argentina-Argentina, via Chile) of canines and/or felines, Senasa established with its Chilean counterpart the conditions to authorize the transit.
The Austral Veterinary Certificate (CVA) was drawn up and agreed bilaterally, which is issued in the name of the person traveling with the animal and lasts for 30 days.
For more information, you can contact the Pet Help Desk at 0800-999-2386 / (011) 4121 – 5000 or consult the procedure on the Senasa website.
