Partner countries approve regulations for the bioceanic train

Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Peru agreed on Friday (15.6.2018) on the regulations of the bioceanic operating group (GOB), made up of the four countries, to build the bioceanic train, from Sao Paulo (Brazil) to Ilo (Peru), which will cross these nations.

Paraná – Paraguay waterway

Paraguay is one of the main interested parties in promote the waterway Paraguay – Parana as a means of river communication, according to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Agustín Encina Pérez.

“We are currently looking at the best way to integrate into the Bioceanic Integration Corridor, offering to transport up to 500 million tons per year through the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, as the Mississippi-Missouri Waterway does today, which has the same specifications as our Waterway,” said the magistrate.

Encina Pérez stated that the signing of the Regulation implies a step towards an effective integration between Bolivia, Peru, Brazil and Paraguay, as it marks the beginning of the consolidation of the long-awaited railway corridor.

The agreement defined seven points, including the consolidation of the supervisory board and the executive committee of the GOB, whose function will be to draw up the terms of reference for the comprehensive studies of the project.

In addition, the signed document establishes sufficient load of the train that would make the implementation of the project viable as well as its sustainable operation.
