WTO publishes new edition of World Tariff Profiles

-

In a joint effort between the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), tariff profiles of the 164 WTO members plus other countries and customs territories were published in order to review market access for goods.

“Each tariff profile presents information on the tariffs imposed by each economy on its imports, complemented by an analysis of the market access conditions it faces in its main export markets,” according to the joint document between these organizations.

Those interested in consulting these tariff profiles will find standardized tables for making comparisons between countries/territories, sectors and consolidated and applied tariffs.

On new document It also specifies that the calculations are based on national tariff schedules and imports in accordance with a standard version of the Harmonized System (HS) nomenclature.

The publication is presented in five main parts.

The first part shows tariff statistics summarized for all countries and territories for all products, as well as a breakdown of agricultural and non-agricultural products.

The second part shows a full page for each of these countries and territories with a breakdown by sector and range of work. It also contains a section on the market access conditions they face in their respective major export markets.

A new third part has been added to this edition to cover information on non-tariff measures. which are increasingly important in international trade, the document says.

Part four contains the special theme entitled “Aligning trade and tariff policies with sustainable development”, provides statistics on tariffs on technological goods that can help countries meet certain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as 3.9 (By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses caused by hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination) and 7.2 (By 2030, substantially increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix).
