Elimination of tariff surcharges in the Port of Buenos Aires is made official

-

the national government Officializes the removal of tariff surcharges on “High Cube” type export containers and those imported as unaccompanied baggage entering the Port of Buenos Aires, under the terms of the regime provided for in Chapter Four of Section IV of the Argentine Customs Code.

This is what the Resolution 65 / 2018 Published this Monday (21.5.2018) with the signature of Gonzalo Mórtola.

This surcharge was introduced in 2014 by port terminals, arguing that containers of this type, due to their large size, generated rehandling and forced underutilization of stowage space, and applied an additional cost of 160 percent compared to a standard container.

In this regard, port authorities consider that this measure is essential to promote regional economies and the country's productive activity, since High Cubes currently represent 55 percent of all containers leaving the country.

This measure is in line with those previously established, which have achieved reductions of up to 40 percent in transportation costs and generated savings of 10 million dollars for the logistics and port community in the first quarter of 2018.

“We have an enormous responsibility, managing the only federal port in the country is managing a large part of the Argentine economy. This measure, demanded for years by the sector, is a very important step towards our goal of becoming a competitive and leading port in the region again with clear and predictable rules,” said Gonzalo Mórtola, Port Controller of Buenos Aires in a statement. release issued last week.
