Official: Puerto Valparaíso and AAPA launch the 107th Annual Convention

It's official. The Port Authority of Valparaiso and the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) launched the 107th Annual AAPA Convention on Thursday (24.5.2018).

This is the most important port event of 2018 that will take place in October 7-10 in Valparaiso, Chile.

The event brought together authorities, executives and clients of the Port of Valparaíso, who shared a night of camaraderie on the Deck of the old port complex of Muelle Barón, according to the official AAPA statement.

According to the official statement, the host of the port event gave a preview of what this convention will be like, which for the first time in 107 years is coming to South America.

"There are four months left to host this great event of the port industry, which between October 7 and 10 will bring together - for the first time in our country and in our beloved port city of Valparaíso - more than 700 managers, executives and representatives of more than 150 ports and 300 companies in the sector, thus emphasizing the strategic relevance that this activity has today in our hemisphere, as a driver of development and economic exchange." said Gonzalo Davagnino, General Manager of EPV.

In that line, the AAPA President and CEO Kurt Nagle He highlighted: “This is the first time that this Convention will be held in South America and I believe that for Valparaíso, having this honor is a recognition of the role played by its port and, certainly, the leadership of Raúl Urzúa, who is extremely recognized and respected in the industry. I think it is a great opportunity to show the international port community the importance of Valparaíso.".

On the agenda of this important international event, Rafael Díaz-Balart, Coordinator for Latin America of AAPA, said that this year's congress will address the latest contingency issues to which the port industry has been exposed.

"We will address current issues, such as the merger of shipping companies and how it affects our industry, experiences regarding the environment and the latest trends in training of the port workforce and how we prepare ourselves in cybersecurity issues - which we have already seen how it affected a global company like Maersk last year - among others. So we will try to cover all the issues that concern the sector.r”, explained the Coordinator for Latin America of AAPA.
