The national government formally appointed Ricardo Negri as the new president of the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa).
El decree 38 / 2018, published this Monday (15.01.2018) in the Official Gazette, establishes that Negri's appointment is administratively effective as of December 1, and that the official will have "the rank and hierarchy of Secretary of State."
Until the appointment of Luis Miguel Etchevehere as Minister of Agroindustry in November, Negri had served as Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries during the administration of Ricardo Buryaile.
With the replacement of the head of that portfolio, the Government's decision was that Negri will take over as head of the strategic Senasa, the health service responsible for controlling food raw materials consumed in the country and exported for more than US$35.000 billion annually.
In the nearly two months that passed until his formal appointment to the new post, Negri had no opportunity to sign the Senasa resolutions, which were left in the hands of the vice president of that organization, Guillermo Rossi.
In any case, he was at the forefront of the main decisions taken in recent weeks, such as the repeal of a series of laws and decrees that had become obsolete with the passage of time, and the non-renewal of contracts for some 120 agents of the organization. Negri is an engineer in Agricultural Administration who, until the change of government in December 2015, had worked in the private sector as head of research for the Argentine Association of Agricultural Experimentation Consortiums (Aacrea).
