The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, accompanied today the representatives of ArgenPork, who export 25 tons of pork to China for the first timeThe meeting took place at the FrioDock company, a bonded warehouse and cold storage facility for meat and other food products.
«It is clear what this Government wants to do. This new shipment of pork to China generates foreign currency and employment in the places where we produce. The company ArgenPork is making its first export of pork to China based on the agreements reached between Presidents Macri and Xi, and which reaffirm the confidence that this market has in us for the quality and quantity of our products. In the short term, this company will be sending between 7 and 8 containers per week», Etchevehere stressed.
In the first half of this year, pork exports increased by 52% in volume compared to the same period in 2018, with 11.513 tons; while slaughter grew by 2,3%, totaling 3.979.956 heads, and production increased by 4%, totaling 370.910 tons equivalent to bone-in beef. Meanwhile, domestic consumption grew by 1,1%, reaching 14,76 kg per inhabitant per year.
The increase in slaughter is explained, among other reasons, by a structural change in production. In recent years, investments by large companies with farms with more than 5.000 sows in production have matured. In addition, investments by medium-sized producers with herds of between 500 and 2.000 sows have increased.
"This is what we propose to the citizens: openness to the world, having a good commercial relationship with the largest number of countries so that what is produced can be exported, and in this way generate employment throughout the chain and continue with the work culture that generates competitiveness and roots.", said the Minister.
ArgenPork is the first Pork Export Consortium in Argentina, which is a strategic union of the country's main producers with a vision of expanding its borders. They participate in international fairs with the purpose of increasing sales of this product. Currently, the Consortium has 18 leading companies in the productive activity.
