Bolivia invites Germany to discuss lithium and bioceanic train

-

Bolivian President Evo Morales invited German Chancellor Angela Merkel to visit the South American country on Tuesday (4.9.2018) to discuss projects such as the industrialization of lithium and the bioceanic train.

"We are inviting the German Chancellor, our sister Angela Merkel, to visit our country," Evo Morales wrote on Twitter, in a message that he also shared in English on this social network.

Lithium

The Bolivian President expressed his desire to discuss “many projects,” among which he mentioned first the industrialization of lithium.

Bolivia has the largest reserves of this mineral in the world in Uyuni, the highest salt flat on the planet, and chose the German company ACI Systems as a partner of the state-owned Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos for its industrialization, in a battery plant that will be exported especially to the automotive sector in Europe.

Bioceanic railway

Morales also highlighted his government's interest in speaking with Merkel about the bioceanic railway, a Project to link the ports of Ilo in Peru with Santos in Brazil via Bolivia, along some 3.755 kilometers with an estimated investment of around 14.000 billion dollars.

Germany, Austria, Spain and Switzerland are countries in which Bolivia is seeking support in Europe for this project, both in terms of technical assistance and investment.

Technology transfers and clean energy

Technology transfers and clean energy are other areas of collaboration highlighted by the Bolivian president in his invitation to the foreign minister.
