The Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, coordinated with the head of Customs, Diego Dávila, the "Synthetic Suitcases" procedure that allowed the seizure of more than 37 thousand amphetamine pills and two kilos of methamphetamines in Misiones (north).
The operation was a consequence of the joint effort between AFIP, Customs, Immigration and Naval Prefecture, whose staff arrested the two involved when they were trying to bring the drugs hidden in four suitcases through the Puerto Rico International Passage.
"This seizure was possible thanks to criminal intelligence and the deployment of federal forces at strategic points in our country," said the minister. Patricia Bullrich. And he added: “During the summer we will intensify the tasks research and cooperation with national and provincial organizations to bring peace of mind to citizens."
How was the procedure? “Synthetic suitcases”?
1. The “Synthetic Suitcases” procedure was developed within the framework of the Open Joint Border Operation (OCAF) of Misiones, a program promoted by the Ministry of Security and coordinated by the Secretary of Borders, Luis Green.
2. Based on intelligence work by Customs and the Ministry of Security, information was obtained regarding the possible transfer of synthetic drugs from Paraguay to supply electronic parties during the summer.
3. In response, controls were strengthened at the river and land crossings connecting both countries.
4. The arrests took place at the border crossing 90 kilometers from Posadas. They were a man and a woman of Paraguayan nationality.
5. Customs officers noticed the couple's nervousness and subjected their luggage to an exhaustive check.
6. The officers confirmed that the suitcases had false bottoms where bags containing pills were packed.
7.The rigorous tests showed that there were 37.167 amphetamines and 2 kilos 07 grams of methamphetamine crystals whose market value exceeds 12 million pesos.
8. The drug was seized at the request of the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Oberá; the defendants were arrested and the documentation that will be of vital importance to the case was seized.
After the procedure, the head of Customs, Diego Davila he pointed: "Joint work between the different State agencies allowed us to prevent the entry of these drugs into the country. In this way, we will avoid the repetition of painful events such as those that recently occurred in the province of Córdoba."
