90% of the merchandise presented to Customs during the mandatory preventive social isolation period, both for import and export, achieved a improvement in dispatch times by being released within 24 hours, reported this Sunday (24.05.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).
The time of «"customs clearance" - a statistic used globally to specify the time taken for customs procedures - thus improved by four percentage points compared to that computed in March, when 86% of the submissions were cleared within that period, according to the average of the 66 customs points in the country.
«The faster processing times occurred in a context of fewer operations. However, the figure shows that a reduced number of workers in the context of the health emergency did not have a negative impact on normal operations.", the DGA reported in a statement.
Likewise, The improvement in customs clearance times was also recorded in the case of operations processed through the "orange" and "red" channels., where it requires additional review by customs personnel.
The number of same-day submissions for goods processed through the "orange" channel, in which the documentation is examined but not the goods, increased from 62% in March to 73% in the last days of April.
For its part, the operations that must be processed through the red channel, which examines both the documentation and the merchandise, went from 37% to 45% in the comparison of the same periods.
Likewise, Customs reported having participated in repatriation operations at the various border crossings and in all missions to China, who went in search of equipment, medical products and other essential supplies to combat the coronavirus.
«At the same time, most of the customs posts were adapted. with dividing screens and the corresponding signage in order to guarantee social distancing and protect both customs workers and those who attend the site.", completed the authority in charge of Silvia Traverso.
