The head of the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP), Mercedes Marcó del Pont, signed the appointment of the new head of the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), Guillermo Michel. The official will take office on Thursday when his appointment is published in the Official Gazette.
Marcó del Pont received Michel this afternoon (22.06.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) together with Silvia Traverso, the official who is leaving her position at the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) and will begin working at the AFIP, according to the official statement.
During the meeting, officials They agreed on the importance of "deepening the strengthening of the areas of control and inspection of Customs since 2020« They also highlighted » the criteria values and reference prices, two of the tools that the organization will continue to reactivate.
AFIP recalled that the instruments to deal with abuses in foreign trade by Customs had been dismantled between 2016 and 2019 as part of the opening and deregulation process promoted by the previous government.
Starting in 2020, the areas in charge of setting and monitoring reference prices for imports and exports were reactivated and strengthened.
"The revitalization of these specialized teams is one of the tasks initiated by Traverso that Michel will strengthen and promote upon his appointment," AFIP stressed.
Michel is a tax expert who headed the General Directorate of Customs between March and December 2015. The lawyer and accountant, who also held senior positions at the AFIP, served as an advisor to the president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation.
During the meeting, Traverso presented the status of the complaints regarding overbilling of imports and underbilling of exports, as well as the guidelines for the work on grain marketing carried out together with the DGI.
The official explained that investigations carried out by Customs allowed the identification and reporting of more than 6000 abusive maneuvers in foreign trade operations between 2020 and 2021 for more than 600 million pesos. The cases ended with legal complaints made by the DGA, or with fines that the companies involved must pay to regularize their situation. (AFIP statement)
