Maersk Line records multi-million dollar loss due to cyber attack

Maersk posted a loss of $269 million in the second quarter of the year, compared with a net profit of $101 million recorded in the same period of 2016. 

The accounts reflect an extraordinary negative impact of €732 million due to downward adjustments in the value of the assets of its subsidiary Maersk Tankers and some commercial difficulties at APM Terminals. 

La Danish firm was one of the main affected by the "Petya" computer virus variant which then massively attacked dozens of large European companies and institutions on June 27.

"El impfinancial act of the attack was limited "The impact of the pandemic on the business will be mainly in the second quarter, with the majority of the losses in the third quarter, mainly due to the volumes lost during the incident and the extraordinary costs in IT and operations," the company reported in its first half-year report on Thursday (17.08.2017).
