The 10 main export complexes that concentrate 91% of national sales

The Indec released this Wednesday (04.03.2020) its report on Argentine exports classified according to the main export complexes for 2019, compared to 2018. They represented 91,4% of total exports during the past year.

In particular, the soybean, automotive, corn, petroleum-petrochemical, beef and leather, gold and silver, wheat, fishing, steel and barley complexes stood out, accounting for 75,2% of total exports.

The evolution of the following is detailed: Top Ten Exporting Complexes:

• Exports of the complex soybean amounted to 16.943 billion dollars (26,0% of total exports), with an interannual increase of 12,5%. The main destinations were the European Union, ASEAN (mainly Vietnam and Indonesia), China, India, “Maghreb and Egypt” and the Middle East.

• Exports of the complex automotive reached 7.126 billion dollars in 2019 (10,9% of total exports), with a drop of 11,6% compared to the same period of the previous year. Its main market was Mercosur (mainly Brazil).

• Exports of the complex corn farmer amounted to 6.025 billion dollars (9,3% of total exports). They increased by 40,1% year-on-year. The main markets were ASEAN (mainly Vietnam), “Maghreb and Egypt”, “Rest of ALADI”, the Middle East and the Republic of Korea.

• Exports of the complex oil-petrochemical totaled 5.076 billion dollars (7,8% of total exports), with a year-on-year increase of 0,6%. The main destinations were NAFTA (mainly the United States), Mercosur (mainly Brazil) and Chile.

• Exports of the complex bovine meat and leather reached 4.032 billion dollars (6,2% of total exports), with an interannual increase of 30,6%. Its main markets were China and the European Union.

• Exports of the complex gold and silver amounted to 2.839 billion dollars (4,4% of total exports), with an interannual increase of 8,0%. The main markets were Switzerland, NAFTA (mainly the United States) and the European Union.

• Exports of the complex wheatgrass amounted to 2.836 billion dollars (4,4% of total exports), with a year-on-year drop of 0,1%. The main destinations were Mercosur (mainly Brazil), ASEAN, “Rest of ALADI” and Chile.

• Exports of the complex fishing totalled 1.863 billion dollars (2,9% of total exports), with a year-on-year decrease of 13,5%. The main destinations were the European Union and China.

• Exports of the complex steelmaker totaled 1.123 billion dollars (1,7% of total exports), with a year-on-year increase of 1,4%. The main destinations were NAFTA (mainly the United States), Mercosur (mainly Brazil), the Middle East and “Rest of ALADI”.

• Exports of the complex barley totaled 1.029 billion dollars (1,6% of total exports), with an interannual increase of 22,9%. The main destinations were Mercosur (mainly Brazil), the Middle East and the “Rest of ALADI”.

Of the ten main export complexes, those that grew the most during the period were: corn (40,1%), beef and leather (30,6%), barley (22,9%), soybeans (12,5%), gold and silver (8,0%), steel (1,4%), and oil-petrochemical (0,6%). On the other hand, among the complexes that showed the greatest declines are fishing (-13,5%), automotive (-11,6%) and wheat (-0,1%).
