LATAM Airlines, the largest air transport group in Latin America, sees that the Demand for flights in Brazil and Argentina remains weak despite the gradual recovery of their economies, a senior executive of the company said on Friday (18.08.2017).
In addition to reporting a multimillion-dollar loss for the second quarter, LATAM revised downwards its demand outlook for domestic routes in Brazil, its main market, and in Spanish-speaking countries.
"Internationally, we are doing very well, but at home, in Brazil, I would say that we are still cautious about the second half of the year.", said Ramiro Alfonsin, LATAM CFO, in a conference call with analysts.
"As for Spanish-speaking countries, we have some concerns regarding Argentina on the domestic side, we are still seeing that demand is not picking up (as expected)," he added.
After starting the day in negative territory, the airline's shares gained 3,72% to 7.950 pesos at mid-session on the Santiago Stock Exchange.
