The European Union on Friday appealed a ruling handed down this week by the World Trade Organization in its dispute with the United States over state aid to aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the WTO said.
In a report published on Monday, a group of WTO experts said that the EU and some of its member states have still not brought their aid to Airbus into compliance.s.
The European Commission immediately claimed that the EU conformity assessment report contained "serious legal errors".
According to the Commission, the report lists the means to be used to comply with WTO rules on subsidies, which would be "highly problematic" for many of its members.
This is the third time in four years that the WTO has found that the EU has not yet eliminated all its illegal subsidies to Airbus.
In mid-October, the WTO, for the same reason, authorized Washington to impose customs sanctions against the EU in retaliation for these state subsidies, considered illegal.
In response to a 2018 EU compliance request, the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) panel of experts concluded once again that “the European Union and some member states have not implemented the DSB’s recommendations and rulings aimed at bringing their measures into conformity with their obligations.”
