The Financial Information Unit (UIF) and the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP) signed an agreement on Monday (15.4.2019) that establishes guidelines and joint working methods, with the aim of evaluating risks and developing strategies against smuggling, tax or social security evasion, money laundering from said preceding crimes and the financing of terrorism.
In order to meet these goals, both organizations will form working groups and sign specific agreements for the execution of activities that require determining the scope and timeframes of execution, reciprocal services, budget or other characteristics that are considered necessary.
In this way, both organizations promote a greater degree of cooperation to strengthen the integrity of the Argentine economic-financial system, a pillar of macroeconomic stability, growth and development.
“Tax authorities around the world have a growing role in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. In this context, we believe that a deep coordination relationship with the UIF is key to ensuring that Argentina can lead the fight against these scourges. "This agreement is a step in the direction of teamwork," said the head of the AFIP, Leandro Cuccioli.
"The alliances between the UIF and other public bodies are essential to improve the efficiency of the working method and the effectiveness of the state's efforts. With AFIP we are building an important working alliance that will allow us to protect the integrity of the system and strengthen compliance with the law in Argentina," said the President of the UIF, Mariano Federici.
Furthermore, as a result of the agreement, the UIF will be able to propose models of action, instructions, work protocols and training programs that the AFIP may adopt internally.
