The WTO will hold a ministerial meeting in Geneva at the end of 2021

Members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) have agreed on Monday (01.03.2021) to hold the next important ministerial meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, at the end of 2021, reported the international organization that deals with the rules governing trade between countries.

The biennial conference was originally scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan., but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who begins her term today, hopes the meeting will provide a venue for an agreement on fisheries subsidies, as well as reforms to the WTO's top appeals body, among other issues.

The Ministerial Conference, attended by trade ministers and other senior officials from the organization's 164 members, iss the highest decision-making body of the WTOUnder the Marrakesh Agreement establishing the WTO, the Ministerial Conference meets once every two years.

The last Ministerial Conference was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in December 2017.
