The CAC warns about the increase in the irregular entry of goods into the country

La Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC) expressed today (12/18/2025) its concern about the increase in the irregular entry of goods into the country, a practice that —it warned— generates negative consequences for the business sector, consumers and public finances.

“The business sector, across its various industries, has been feeling the impact of this illicit activity not only in sales, but also in production and local employment,” the organization stated in an official press release. In this regard, it emphasized that smuggling also affects “the national treasury, due to the loss of revenue from import duties, internal taxes, and VAT.”

The CAC also warned that a significant portion of the goods entering the country illegallyProducts such as cell phones, air conditioners, televisions, and laptops do not comply with current regulations. “Numerous products fail to meet electrical certifications and ENACOM approvals, lack official warranties, and offer no technical support to consumers,” they warned.

According to the organization, this situation not only violates Consumer Protection and Fair Trade regulations, but also poses a risk to end users. "These issues endanger consumers and distort competition in the domestic market," the CAC emphasized.

In this contextThe Chamber demanded that controls at border crossings be strengthened and detection efforts reinforced.“It is essential to improve the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the irregular entry of goods across borders and of illegal vendors within the local market,” the entity stated, while warning that these actors “receive extraordinary and tax-free income.”

Finally, heThe CAC highlighted the importance of coordination between public bodies to address this problem. “The coordinated work of the various public bodies is key to implementing more effective controls and inspections on sellers and resellers, both physical and online, in order to ensure compliance with the legal framework and fair competition,” he concluded.
