Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Chile, member countries of the Pacific Alliance, concluded this Saturday (06.07.2019) in Lima the XIV Summit of this commercial cooperation organization with the signing of a joint declaration announcing the future accession of Ecuador as a member state.
Presidents Martín Vizcarra of Peru, Sebastián Piñera of Chile, Iván Duque of Colombia and Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard also made A call to stop global protectionism, in the midst of a trade war between the United States and China; and reduce the effects of climate change.
“We welcome Ecuador as a new Candidate for Associated State to the Pacific Alliance, with a view to its future accession as a full member, which constitutes an important step towards strengthening the Alliance. We express our commitment to define, during the second half of 2019, the terms of reference that will guide the negotiation, as was communicated to Ecuador," says the document. The President of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, the President of Chile, Sebastian Piñera, the President of Colombia, Iván Duque, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, Marcelo Ebrard, representing President Andrés López Obrador, were present at the XIV Summit of the Pacific Alliance (PA).
The event was attended by the President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, who was a special guest.
It could even surpass the aspirations of associate states Canada, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand, which have been seeking full membership in the alliance since last year.
Certificates of origin and customs declarations
Among the achievements of the Pacific bloc, the following stands out: "implementation of the electronic scheme for the interoperability of certificates of origin and phytosanitary certificates"This eliminates the use of paper in foreign trade operations that require it," the final document states.
Added to this is the "Harmonisation of customs declaration data of the Pacific Alliance countries, which will initiate the development of IT in accordance with the prioritization of customs administrations," according to the official seventeen-point text.
