The Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP) seized 207 kilos of cocaine hidden in a truck that was trying to enter the country from Bolivia. The maneuver was detected by Customs personnel in the Salta town of Pocitos.
The drugs were hidden in a truck with a Bolivian license plate that was transporting 1000 boxes of bananas. The 202 packages were detected by Customs personnel during the scanning of the vehicle at the International Bridge that connects the cities of Salvador Mazza in Argentina and Yacuiba in Bolivia. The operation included the participation of anti-narcotics dogs and their handlers.
The narcotic substances reacted positively to the reagent indicative of cocaine. The packages were packed in a double bottom in the wall of the thermal coupling, where the refrigeration equipment is located. The declared destination of the merchandise was the province of Buenos Aires.
Customs has drawn up the corresponding proceedings for attempted smuggling classified as drug importing and the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Tartagal was involved. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and held incommunicado.
