The AFIP, anticipating a greater influx of tourists to Chile due to the upcoming visit of Pope Francis, will take a series of measures to improve its service at border crossings that will extend from January 13 to 20.
All steps will add staff, scanners and dog pairs for greater control and, in some cases, will extend their hours of operation.
Upon re-entry into the country, if the excess tax on the franchise has to be paid, it can be paid electronically. It should be noted that the franchise is 150 dollars if it is by land for adults and 75 for minors under 16 years of age. If the return is by air, the amount is 300 dollars and 150 for minors.

What documentation should I bring?
To avoid delays and inconveniences, AFIP reminds you of the documentation that must be presented to travel to Chile.
- Digital ID or card (it is the only valid document) or your Passport. Proofs of ID in process are NOT valid as travel documents. If minors under 18 years of age are traveling, in addition to their ID, the Civil Family Record Book, Birth Certificate or Certificate, which confirms the filiation data, is required. If the minor is traveling with only one of his/her parents or without them, he/she will need the corresponding authorization from the absent parent.
Luggage and valuables
Please note that you may bring new or used items for personal consumption, without commercial purposes. You may carry in your luggage products that are free to export, declared and with their purchase invoice, for a total of up to US$ 2.000 or its equivalent in another currency.
Travelers who withdraw precious metals, cash, checks and/or other currencies from Argentine territory must do so in accordance with the following limitations:
- Those over 16 years of age or emancipated: up to US$10.000.
- Minors under 16 years of age who are not emancipated: up to US$5.000.
These limits will be calculated for each traveler or crew member.
It is worth remembering that if you bring imported objects or goods, you must declare them and show them to the customs service before your departure so that you are not required to pay taxes on those goods upon your return.
