The federal court of Paso de los Libres ordered the prosecution of two defendants for alleged labor exploitation and human trafficking in Colonia Libertad, Corrientes province, following a complaint filed by the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP).
Furthermore, A $100.000 seizure was ordered on the assets of both defendants.
What happened
In early 2017, AFIP officials detected 13 workers who were employed in a eucalyptus plantation under extreme safety and hygiene conditions. These people lived in semi-trailers fitted with shelves and mattresses, without tables, chairs, bathrooms or electricity.
It should be noted that, at the time of their removal, the workers were not registered in the National Registry of Rural Workers and Employees.
As a result of these operations, in April 2017 the federal court of Paso de los Libres ordered a raid, which was carried out with the Office of Rescue and Support for People Affected by the Crime of Trafficking, of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. The Secretariat for Investigation of Organized and Complex Crime of the Ministry of National Security also participated.
Through this operation, AFIP reaffirms its commitment to ensuring decent working conditions throughout the country.
