The Ministry of Transportation of the Nation instructed this Friday (13.03.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) to the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) to regulate the flights that must arrive in the country, amid restrictions imposed by a presidential decree due to the coronavirus, while Aerolíneas Argentinas will define the modality to be implemented starting next Tuesday.
"The Ministry of Transport has issued a request to ANAC to regulate flights to the country and a resolution in which a series of measures to be developed are adopted, covering a series of areas of transport in its different modalities," said an official statement distributed this morning by the Ministry of Transport.
The text is based on "the current emergency that the country is experiencing" and "the latest provisions of the National Government, such as the Decree of Necessity and Urgency that extends the public emergency in health matters."
The document noted that the Minister of Transport, Mario Meoni, "through a note to the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) - the executing agency - instructed air operators regarding the temporary suspension of flights established in art. 9 of the Decree of Necessity and Urgency" published yesterday afternoon.
He also stated that this measure was taken "in order to address exceptional humanitarian circumstances of need" to allow the return of passengers and crews residing in Argentina, and "authorize air operations to the affected areas until Monday, March 16" from all airlines.
This means that the various airlines will be able to operate normally until Monday inclusive, according to their established schedules or those adapted due to the coronavirus pandemic that they may have, for the transfer of passengers.
"In addition, Starting on Tuesday, March 17 of this year and until the deadline set by the suspension, it will be exclusively Aerolíneas Argentinas SA"... who is authorized to carry out transfer operations to and from the affected areas," the official statement said.
And added that "The Ministry of Transport, together with the Ministry of Health, will authorize the return with prior health control".
In this regard, Aerolíneas sources informed Télam that the company's Executive Committee will meet this morning to establish the operating modality starting on Tuesday, based on the instructions issued by the Ministry and ANAC.
“So far, operations are being carried out according to the established schedule. Today it will be decided how it will be carried out starting on Tuesday, whether it will be through special schedules and flights or based on the usual schedules and how many flights will be carried out and the destinations; and whether it will be exclusively for Argentines or also for foreigners,” said the source.
