How can we prevent HLB from entering Argentina?

-

The HBL (Huanglongbing) bacteria, which attacks citrus fruits and leads to the destruction of plantations, has been in the country since 2012 and potentially threatens the regions of northwest and northeast Argentina, putting regional economies at risk. Different entities, coordinated by the Ministry of Agroindustry, coordinate actions to prevent this disease, which has no cure.

Since the disease has no cure, the only way to control it is prevention, control of the insect vector, eradication of affected plants and avoiding transfers without the necessary phytosanitary precautions.

This action is necessary because Argentine citrus production is valued at one billion dollars and provides work for more than 100 thousand people in 10 different provinces.

How can we prevent HLB from entering Argentina?

It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember the following:

  1. DO NOT enter fruits, plants, flowers or plant parts of any kind into the country because they can carry the insect that transmits HLB, or other diseases that are absent in different regions of Argentina.
  2. DO NOT transfer fruits, plants within the country without authorization from Senasa.

In case of suspected presence of HLB, it is Mandatory to file a complaint corresponding to 0800-999-2386 or to the email [email protected].

Both channels are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Preventing HLB means saving our citrus fruits.
