Buenos Aires exempts taxes on imported goods to clean up the Reconquista River

-

The national government exempted the province of Buenos Aires, Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services, from the payment of import duties and the statistical and verification rates relating to the importation for consumption of goods intended to be used for the environmental sanitation of the Reconquista River Basin, through the Decree 243 / 2019.

According to the measure, published in the Official Gazette this Wednesday (3.4.2019) the Imported goods may not be transferred for a period of five years counted from the date of their release to the place and must be assigned exclusively to the destination taken into account for the granting of the conferred benefits, which must be accredited before the General Directorate of Customs.

These assets, which will be used to clean up the Reconquista River, were acquired through the international public tender 1/17 approved by the Undersecretary of Finance of the Ministry of Economy of the province, within the framework of the “Environmental Sanitation Program of the Reconquista River Basin”, whose main objective is to recover the environmental quality of this natural resource.

The Reconquista River is 50 kilometres long and forms part of the River Plate basin after passing through 18 municipalities in Buenos Aires, in which more than 4.000.000 inhabitants live. It also suffers frequent flooding, aggravated by environmental pollution.

Given this situation, according to the national government, "the importation of these goods is of vital importance to improve collective health and the quality of life of the population living in areas at risk of health."

The decree, which comes into force immediately, has the support of President Mauricio Macri, the Chief of Staff, Marcos Peña, the Minister of Finance, Nicolás Dujovne, and the Minister of Production and Labor, Dante Sica.
