The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, participated this Wednesday (25.09.2019/2019/2020) in the presentation of the sowing and production prospects for the XNUMX-XNUMX Thick Crop Campaign organized by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
«This is a great event where we take stock but above all make projections. We are coming off a very good year for the planted area and a record harvest of 147 million tons after a record drought that speaks of resilience, entrepreneurial spirit and the determination of producers and the entire chain.", the Minister stressed.
At the event, which brought together actors in the agricultural chain, Etchevehere pointed out that work was done on public policies to simplify procedures, the implementation of competitiveness tables and the opening of markets. «Since President Mauricio Macri took office, we have seen the producer as an ally, we have eliminated ROE and restrictions and developed policies aimed at taking production to export; we have worked on de-bureaucratization to end the sources of corruption and loss of time and money; in the competitiveness tables to generate dialogue and advance in logistics to provide greater efficiency.«.
As an example, he explained that "We went from 2,5 million tons in Belgrano Cargas in 2015 to 6 million tons in 2019, and in a couple of years we will be at 9,5 million transported by rail.«.
«We eliminated export restrictions and developed a policy not aimed at exporting surpluses but focused on market demand.", said Etchevehere.
Regarding the opening of markets, the Minister emphasized the milestone of the agreement Mercosur-EU and that with China «In the last two years we signed 12 health protocols, we can talk about the effective opening of a market." And he added: "It is central to grain production because we transform grains into animal protein with the firms for the opening of fresh meat with and without bone, and frozen meat with bone and the sanitary protocol for pork.«.
For his part, at the opening of the day, the president of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, José Martins, pointed out that «We are in a sector where by working with minimal technology we can reduce gaps. And this reduction can provide us with a production of 180 million tons and with a little more technology we can go to an environment of 200 million tons.«.
Also present at the event at the stock exchange were the head of the ministry's cabinet, Santiago del Solar, officials, legislators, diplomats and representatives of the sector.
During the Congress, conferences will be held in 6 panels with the participation of 20 climate, soil and economic specialists and journalists from the sector who will address topics of relevance to the Argentine agroindustry, such as the climate, price, political and economic scenarios, and the situation of the international grain market, led by Mark Jekanowsky from the United States Department of Agriculture.
