Government expands non-automatic import licenses

The National Government introduced the Integrated Import Monitoring System (SIMI) for the management and processing of import licensesthrough Resolution 1 / 2020.

The regulation, published this Thursday (09.01.2019/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the Official Gazette, explains that the measure "is a key tool for the management of foreign trade policy with a view to national productive development and in accordance with the current context of international trade relations."

Thus, the number of tariff items for goods included in the tariff items of the Common Nomenclature of MERCOSUR destined for definitive import for consumer products, which required prior permission before entering the country, a procedure better known as Non-Automatic License (LNA). 

The resolution's recitals state that the import licensing system "provides statistical information at general and specific levels that allows for the identification of disruptive behavior in foreign trade" and "is a key tool for the management of foreign trade policy with a view to national productive development and in accordance with the current context of international trade relations."

Furthermore, the text highlights that "a series of goods have been identified for which, based on the current economic situation, it is essential to evaluate their respective trade flows and degree of compliance with the respective technical standards applicable to them, in order to generate information that facilitates the efficient design of public policies to be applied."

Resolution 1 will enter into force as of January 10, 2020.
