Chilean trade fell by 5,4% in September

Chilean trade exchange, during the months of January-September 2019, was 99.958 billion dollars FOB, a figure that showed a negative variation of 5,4% compared to the same period in the first half of 2018, the National Customs Service reported.

This decrease resulted in a drop in the amount of The country's trade turnover is 5.757 billion dollars FOB, compared to the same period last year.

As for exports, they fell by 6,4% during January-September of this year, totalling 3.656 billion dollars less.

Meanwhile, purchases from abroad showed a decrease in FOB amount equivalent to 4,4%.

Destinations

Chilean foreign trade was concentrated mainly in Asia, America and Europe, which together represented 97,8% of the country's trade.

Trade with Asia during the first nine months of 2019 accounted for 44,2% of Chile's global trade, showing a contraction of 3,6% compared to 2018.

64,7% of sales to the Asian continent correspond to products from the mining sector, which showed a decrease of 4,1%. Within this group, shipments of copper minerals and their concentrates and copper stand out, which together represent 93,5% of shipments to the Asian continent.

Sales of non-mining products in Asia decreased by 1,7% compared to January-September 2018; within this group, the most exported products are cellulose, salmon and trout, and cherries.

The main trading partners with the Asian region were China, Japan and South Korea, which accounted for 86,1% of trade with this continent.

Chile's trade with the American continent reached 37.327 billion dollars FOB, a figure equivalent to 37,3% of total global trade. The amount of exports with Latin America
decreased by 10,2%, as did imports, which registered a contraction of 5,7%.

Trade with Europe, during January-September 2019, reached 16.217 billion dollars FOB, that is, 6,7% less than the same period in 2018.

Shipments to this continent decreased by 11,3%, while imports increased by 1,8%.

52,7% of trade with Europe was carried out with the following countries: Germany, Spain, France and the Netherlands.

Export of Services

Unlike goods, services are not tangible, however they are found in almost all economic activities; there are industries that provide services and others that support manufacturing for the production of services.
