The Government postponed until December 1 the start of international operations at the "Jorge Newbery" Airport, through the Resolution 149 / 2020.
The measure, published this Tuesday (12.05.2020) in the Official Gazette, says: «The internationalization of the “Jorge Newbery” Airport of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires is deferred to December 1, 2020, in relation to the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Paraguay, the Republic of Chile, the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Republic of Peru "provided by Resolution No. 40 dated February 14, 2020 of the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC)".
Following the decision signed by the head of ANAC, Paola Tamburelli, the return of regional connections at this air terminal, which had planned to begin dispatching flights to Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia and Peru, was suspended.
The regulation recalls that on March 19, 2020, the National Executive Branch established a measure of “social, preventive and mandatory isolation” for all persons living in the country or temporarily in it; “this measure is in force to date.”
In this context, the National Airport System Regulatory Agency (ORSNA) reported that several interventions are still pending in the passenger terminal of the Aeroparque Metropolitano to adapt it to international flight operations, so it is necessary to postpone the start of these operations.
According to ANAC, there are pending infrastructure works to begin new operations at the airport and such works will require an estimated time of one hundred and twenty (120) days.
However, the regulations state that "It is necessary to set a new specific deadline for the start of international operations at the metropolitan air station," so that airlines "can take it into consideration as a minimum period for making their future traffic projections."
