The Minister of Transport of the Nation, Guillermo Dietrich, supervised this Monday (18.09.2017) in Tierra del Fuego the first works of the expansion of the port of Ushuaia, which he considered "The largest investment in port infrastructure made by the National Government in the entire country".
Dietrich, accompanied by the governor of Tierra del Fuego, Rosana Bertone, toured the stretch between the container storage plaza and the main dock, which will add up to an extension of 251 meters in length through a project that involves the disbursement of around 400 million pesos of investment and that will generate 700 jobs between direct and indirect labor.
“We estimate that the first major tranche of The work will be completed by April next year. and that all the works will be completed by May 2019,” Dietrich assured during the tour. The minister emphasized that “one of the industries with the greatest development capacity in Argentina is tourism,” and stated that the expansion of the port terminal implies “taking advantage of one of the greatest opportunities that this place has to attract visitors.”

In terms of roads, the minister confirmed to Governor Bertone the calls for tender to pave the 15-kilometer stretch of gravel road which exists between the San Sebastián Border Crossing, in the north of the Island, and the border with Chile.
