Argentine Customs Day

-

Every year, on June 1st, the Customs Office and its staff are warmly greeted on their day. This date was chosen because of the record of the first customs operation, which turned out to be an import from Brazil in 1586.

This June 1st is special, because it will be remembered by all Argentines and the entire planet, given the difficult times that society must go through due to the effects of COVID-19. In this context, the group of men and women who make up the Customs corps should not only be congratulated, but also applauded. Through their service to the community, they contribute to maintaining the imports and exports of all essential goods in terms of health and food, as well as being present in every place on our borders, maintaining the permanent exercise of their activity.

Therefore, Customs should not be seen as a mere collection agency; on the contrary, it is a link in the traceability of international trade, since through its control work it protects those who engage in legitimate trade.

At the end of the pandemic, an analysis will be necessary that will surely conclude in the need to revalue certain areas, focusing greater attention, not only on the budget, but also on improvement, training and digitalization.

The customs service is one of the country's structural sectors that should be recognized and protected as an essential body. It is necessary to emphasize the importance of an evolution in line with the urgent needs of our society, which today requires a Customs Service for the 21st century.

Citizens rightly applaud the different services provided by health corps and the armed forces, among others. In our view, we must add to them the men and women in the blue vest. For this reason, today, June 1, 2020, we pay them a special tribute on their day and congratulate them for their work with a strong and recognized applause.

Happy day to all customs personnel of the Argentine Republic.
