From September 18, online shifts will be mandatory for unloading at ports

-

The national government implemented a digital shift system to order the unloading of trucks in the ports of Gran Rosario and the Province of Buenos Aires, which will be mandatory from the Tuesday September 18 2018

Reduce costs

The purpose of the new system seeks to reduce the logistics costs and increase profitability during harvest season, where queues at ports can last up to three days.

The digitalization of the shift system will be mandatory and will improve, in addition to the order, transparency and control.

Public and private work

The system was designed by the Ministry of Transport, with the support of the Undersecretariat of Agricultural Markets of the Secretariat of Government of Agroindustry, AFIP, the Center of the Oil Industry of the Argentine Republic (CIARA), the Center of Cereal Exporters (CEC), the Chamber of Private Ports and the Chambers of Motor Transport of Cargoes. All port terminals that are destinations for motor transport of grains voluntarily joined the system and will apply the mandatory modality starting next week.

How does the shift system work?

  1. The agricultural producer will request a waiting time at the terminal to be able to unload at the port. The terminal will upload the order data to an online database.
  2. This will be verified by AFIP before granting the Grain Traceability Code (CTG).
  3. The tax authority will not issue CTGs until it verifies that there is an assigned unloading slot, which will prevent the sending of trucks without a slot to the port terminals and the creation of long waiting lines.

"This is a historic milestone for the sector as it will allow for the elimination of queues at ports, a better use of the vehicle fleet and of the installed port capacity, with the consequent reduction in logistics costs, in addition to greater security for transporters," said the Undersecretary of Agricultural Markets, Jesús Silveyra.
