The World Customs Organization (WCO) launched the CENcomm Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Group on the CENcomm 3.0 platform, aimed at the search for illegal product smuggling, the agency reported on Wednesday (25.03.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX).
According to the statement, the world is dominated by the fight against COVID-19, while criminal organizations have turned this global pandemic into an opportunity to carry out their fraudulent activities, particularly by trafficking counterfeit medical supplies, such as face masks and medical gloves.
In view of this, «lThe WCO represents a united and strong response to any crisis affecting the global supply chain and the security of societies.“said WCO Secretary General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya.
"This new CENcomm DPI group will improve global real-time intelligence sharing on counterfeit medical supplies and medicines and enable Customs worldwide to combat illicit trade. Organized criminal groups will not be the winners in this challenge.“Dr. Mikuriya added.
This tool, a web-based communication system, will enable a closed group of authorised customs users to exchange intelligence information, messages and alerts through secure channels. This information exchange will enhance and improve the enforcement and risk management operations of participating administrations in the areas of combating IPR infringements and consumer safety capabilities.
The WCO therefore urges its 183 members to register with the IPR CENcomm Group and submit details of their national contact points for this group.
