FIFCO and CEMEX have joined forces in logistics to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their vehicle fleets.

within a New logistics efficiency process, now trucks from the cement company CEMEX transport merchandise from the beverage company FIFCO when they return empty from various points in Costa Rica. In this way, Optimize fleet trips and fuel useIn addition, it has impacted the transit of heavy vehicles on shared routes and the placement of safer equipment on high-traffic routes.

The project was considered a best practice at the Carbon Neutrality Country Program awards event within the framework of Pre COP25.

"Almost a year after starting this alliance, we already see positive environmental results. We contribute to the Carbon Neutrality Country Program and to the decarbonization of the economy, we have 62.292 liters of diesel saved and a reduction of 165.938 kg of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) equivalent, as well as the reduction of traffic on routes 1 and 27" explained Gisela Sánchez, Director of Corporate Relations at FIFCO.

For his part, Enrique A. García, Country Director of CEMEX Costa Rica, commented that "an integral part of the initiative consists of the acquisition of double-trailer equipment to which we have implemented safety devices called “Mobile eye” to improve driving, with which we contribute to road safety with high-tech equipment and highly trained drivers, which prevents nearly 95% of head-on collisions, and up to 60% of all types of collisions.”

Results in the first 10 months of implementation:

– Contribution to the Carbon Neutrality Country Program and to the decarbonization of the economy.
– 110.880 kilometers not traveled
– 62.292 liters of diesel saved
– 165.938 kg of CO2 equivalent
– Improving the efficiency of logistics systems
– Transport with 40% more capacity.
– Decrease in traffic on Route 1 and Route 27

As these are companies from such different sectors, they had to establish logistics procedures and controls and implement rigorous quality and safety protocols in all trucks. These are loaded with finished product at FIFCO's distribution centers, where they carry out sweeping and blowing processes with compressed air to ensure the elimination of all particles and guarantee that the transport of goods of different types and origins does not affect the quality and safety of the product delivered to the consumer.
