The staff of the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) inspected this Thursday (23.01.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) the discharge of waste from a passenger cruise ship at the “Quinquela Martín” Terminal of the Port of the City of Buenos Aires, with the aim of prevent the entry of pests and diseases into the country.
Within the framework of the National Regulated Waste Program of the Agency –after verifying compliance with the requirements established by Senasa Resolution 77/2019–, the unloading and transfer for thermal treatment of approximately 50 cubic meters of organic waste transported by the cruise ship “MSC Poesía” of the Mediterranean Shipping Company was authorized.
Personnel from the Metropolitan Regional Center of Senasa, who work in the port of Buenos Aires and other port terminals in the region, participated in the controls.
Miguel Trezeguet from the Waste Program of the Senasa Regional Center stated that “this type of cruise ship, which transports 3000 passengers and 1500 crew members, generates on average between 50 and 100 cubic meters of waste.”
