The customs administrations of Guatemala and Honduras reported today (23.11.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) that land crossings and customs operations at the Corinto Integrated Customs Office remain closed following the serious impact of hurricanes Eta and Iota on Central America's infrastructure.
"The temporary closure of the Corinto Integrated Post, resulting from the collapse of the bridge located at kilometer 302 of the CA-13 route, section Entre Ríos – Frontera Corinto, Puerto Barrios, Izabal, which has affected said post and, consequently, customs operations," reads the joint statement from the agencies of the Customs Union.
In order to facilitate trade, the customs of Guatemala and Honduras recommend redirecting operations, to and from Corinto, to the Agua Caliente Integrated Customs Office. until new notice.
It is recalled that Guatemala and Honduras have deepened the customs union in June 2017. To this end, both countries have integrated their trade procedures at three common land borders: Agua Caliente, El Florido and Corinto. In this regard, the parties simplified the procedures on both sides of the border, so that trade between Honduras and Guatemala now requires only one online instrument called "FYDUCA" (Invoice and Single Central American Declaration). This is the first customs union on the American continent, according to the Central American Integration System (SIECA).
