Argentine Congress approves agreement between Mercosur and Chile

The Argentine Chamber of Deputies approved the extension of the Economic Complementation Agreement between the countries of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and Chile, signed last January in Montevideo.

The plenary session of the Argentine Lower House authorized the agreement, which has to go through the Parliaments of the States of the group: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, with 113 positive votes, 44 negative votes and 4 abstentions.

Economic Complementation Agreement (ACE) No. 35 is intended to “deepen the special ties of friendship and cooperation; expand trade and promote its harmonious development”, as recalled by the Argentine Chamber of Deputies. 

The agreement regulates trade facilitation for entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as health measures, the lifting of technical barriers to trade, public procurement and investments. 

Also, to promote greater international cooperation and strengthen economic relations” between countries and promoting sustainable development, environmental protection and conservation, and incorporating the gender perspective in international trade. 

ACE No. 35 came into force in 1996 and was consolidated in Montevideo, Uruguay on January 4, 2018.
