The fifth edition of the World Conference of Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) will be held in Dubai under the coordination of Dubai Customs in cooperation with the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Federal Customs Authority of the United Arab Emirates, according to the release of the WCO.
The global event that will take place from 10 al 12 March 2020, will provide a platform to exchange innovative ideas, examine potential opportunities and explore the steps required to take ties with the customs community to the next level by introducing new features and a novel approach to global customs procedures.
“It has been more than a decade since the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) programmes were introduced to enhance the security and facilitation of global trade supply chains,” the text states. It adds that “the time has come to take stock of the current implementation of AEO and MRA and reflect on the way forward to ensure a sustained and improved implementation trajectory.”
The Authorized Economic Operator is a basic concept in the creation of international standards for customs procedures and authorizations for commercial companies. It improves the customs security system and ensures trade facilitation, allowing member companies to easily move their products to global markets, especially to countries and markets that are members of the program.
The World Customs Organization represents 183 customs administrations around the world that are the main decision-makers in their respective countries in terms of creating a stable, secure, transparent and predictable business environment. The WCO provides a platform to discuss issues related to various areas of customs business, such as the harmonized system, rules of origin, customs valuation, law enforcement, facilitation and capacity building.
